What Advanced (C1+) German means

At C1+ German, learners can express complex ideas precisely, understand nuance and adapt their language to different contexts.

  • Qualify an argument

    So überzeugend die Argumentation im Großen und Ganzen auch ist, lässt sie mehrere unbeabsichtigte Folgen außer Acht.

    While the argument is broadly convincing, it overlooks several unintended consequences.

  • Convey nuance

  • Adapt your register

About this course

The course develops speaking, listening, reading and writing through discussion of German culture, current affairs and everyday topics. Learners will work with texts, audio-visual materials and grammar, including more complex structures and terminology. Teaching centres on spoken communication, with pair and group work, role plays, games, presentations and other tutor-selected activities. Topics may be adapted to the group, and homework is recommended to consolidate classroom learning.

  • Discuss everyday life, current affairs and cultural topics with greater fluency

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for advanced German learners. The provider suggests at least four years of study, a rusty A-level or equivalent knowledge, and familiarity with terminology including the subjunctive, conditional, cases, subordinate clauses and conjunctions.

  • Requires an established foundation in German grammar

  • Homework is highly recommended between sessions
