At A1 German, learners are beginning to use familiar words and simple sentences in predictable everyday situations.

These are general examples of language use at this level, not a description of any individual course syllabus.
About this course
The course introduces German through everyday topics including greetings, personal information, numbers, occupations, hobbies, family, preferences and places in a town or city. Learners also explore basic grammar, including noun genders, personal pronouns, verb endings and plurals. Teaching centres on spoken communication, with pair and group work, role plays and games supported by presentations, hand-outs and audio-visual resources.
What you'll learn
- Use German numbers and the alphabet
- Greet people and introduce yourself
- Give basic personal information, including address and age
- Talk about nationalities, languages, professions, studies, hobbies and family
- Identify places in a town or city
- Recognise basic grammatical features such as genders, pronouns, verb endings and noun plurals
Is this course right for you?
The course is designed for complete beginners in German and uses regular spoken interaction. Learners should expect to take part in pair work, group activities, role plays and games. Homework is recommended to reinforce classroom learning.
