German beginners: module 2

About this course

The course develops basic German for everyday situations, including asking for directions, shopping for food, ordering in a café, booking accommodation, telling the time and making appointments. Learners also practise discussing daily routines and using separable verbs, modal verbs, plurals and the accusative case. Teaching follows a communicative approach, with speaking and listening activities, pair and group work, role plays, authentic materials, pictures, realia and audio-visual resources where appropriate. Some homework may be set.

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for near beginners, corresponding to learners who have completed around 18 hours of German study. The Beginner (A1) label indicates an early-stage course, rather than confirmation that it is suitable for someone with no prior study. Learners are expected to take part in oral classroom activities, work with others and complete homework when required.
