About this course

The course develops core English skills through real-life reading, writing and speaking tasks. Learners practise identifying main points and details in different texts, reading for varied purposes, planning and organising written work, adapting writing for different readers, and checking grammar and spelling. Discussion activities cover both formal and informal contexts. Teaching combines classroom instruction with activities, supported by online materials for learning beyond the taught sessions. Progress is reviewed through a folder of work and a Personal Learning Plan, with tutors gathering and marking work during the course.

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for learners who meet the Entry Level 3 Functional Skills English entry requirement and are preparing to progress to Level 1. An English initial assessment must be completed before starting. Participation includes tutor-led teaching, classroom activities, online learning and discussion work.
