About this course

The course focuses on advanced glass-casting processes, including mould making with wax and rubber silicone, and exploring varied forms through kiln casting. Learners work on set tasks and processes in a workshop environment, combining demonstrations, discussion, practical making and regular tutor feedback. Projects involve troubleshooting technical issues, assessing material suitability and producing cast pieces. The course also considers contemporary glass art trends and professional practices, alongside critical discussion of learners’ own work and that of others.

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for learners with intermediate or advanced experience in casting techniques. The advanced level indicates work beyond fundamental processes, with participants expected to undertake set practical tasks, discuss their work and respond to regular feedback in a shared workshop setting.

Before you go

• The fee includes tuition, some specialist materials and use of specialist equipment.
• Learners are expected to purchase wax, mould-making materials, silicone and glass; guidance is provided during the first session.
• Sturdy shoes, boots or trainers must be worn. Open sandals are not suitable.
• An apron is required.
• A sketchbook or notebook and drawing materials such as pencils, pens or marker pens may be useful.
• Basic workshop tools are available, and glass and other materials can be purchased or brought in.
