Glass: Fusing with Float Glass

About this course

The course examines float glass, including sheet and frit, as a material for kiln-formed work. Participants learn glass-cutting and assembly methods, experiment with fusing and slumping, and investigate the use of metal inclusions. Demonstrations, discussion and guided set tasks take place in a practical workshop setting, with opportunities for more experienced learners to develop self-directed projects. The course also covers how kiln temperatures influence forming results, with ongoing observation and feedback followed by a group presentation of participants’ outcomes and experience.

Before you go

• Tuition, specialist materials, use of specialist equipment and kiln firings are included.
• Learners are expected to purchase some kiln-formed glass materials. They may also need to purchase small tools or additional materials as advised.
• A sketchbook or notebook and writing or drawing materials may be useful.
• Sturdy shoes, boots or trainers must be worn. Open sandals are not permitted, and an apron is required.
• Basic workshop tools are available, while glass and other materials can be purchased or brought in.
