Glass: Painting and Printing Processes

About this course

The course explores decorative glass processes including brushwork, enamel application and screen-printing. Learners develop individual project work with guidance in a workshop setting, combining demonstrations, presentations, discussion and practical activity. Projects may relate to stained glass or kiln-formed glass. Ongoing observation and tutor feedback are used to review progress, followed by a group presentation in which learners outline the development of their projects. The course also considers safe working practices and the suitability of materials at different stages of the glass-making process.

Before you go

• Sturdy shoes, boots or trainers must be worn; open sandals are not permitted. An apron is also required.
• A sketchbook or notebook and drawing materials such as pencils, pens or marker pens may be brought.
• Some materials and use of specialist equipment are included. Learners are expected to purchase their own glass material, and additional materials may be needed for individual projects.
• Basic printing materials are covered by a studio fee. Glass and other materials are available for purchase, and guidance on materials is provided at the first session.
