About this course

The course introduces glassworking methods including casting, kiln forming and other shaping and forming processes, alongside the properties of different types of glass and safe workshop practice. Participants develop individual projects, using painting and printing techniques with glass enamels to explore surface decoration. Teaching combines presentations, discussion and demonstrations with independent making. Ongoing observation and tutor feedback support the development of each project, which is discussed in a group presentation at the end of the course.

What you'll learn

  • Apply essential glass shaping and forming techniques
  • Use glassworking processes in accordance with health and safety guidelines
  • Assess the suitability of different glass materials for particular techniques
  • Produce individual glass artworks and critically evaluate their own work and that of others

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for beginners, as well as learners with some previous knowledge who want further guidance and practice with glass shaping and forming processes. Participants work on individual self-directed projects and take part in a group presentation of their project development.

  • Work is organised around individual projects rather than a shared practical outcome
  • The course includes discussion and presentation of project development to the group
