About this course
The workshop introduces the properties of glazes, differences between stoneware and earthenware, and the relationship between glaze types and firing temperatures. Participants will practise applying glaze to their fired ceramic work by dipping, pouring or brushing, while considering which standard department glazes suit their pieces. Teaching combines demonstrations with group discussion and individual advice. Participants will also be encouraged to record their glazing choices in a notebook or update existing notes.

Is this course right for you?
The workshop is intended for beginners and more advanced students, with an all-levels format. Participants should be prepared to follow verbal instructions, take part in group discussion and work within a shared studio setting. Attendance at a previous City Lit course is required.

Before you go
- Tools are available in the department, although participants may bring their own.
- Closed shoes must be worn; open-toed sandals are not suitable.
- Glazed work will be fired after the workshop and made available for collection later in the term.
- The studio's potter's wheel motors may pose a serious risk to people with pacemakers or internal defibrillators. They should contact the Ceramics Department before enrolling to discuss this.
