About this course

The course examines graphic design through topics including semiotics, negative space, typography and visual storytelling, alongside the development of techniques and styles across design history. Students work on a series of weekly projects to develop their own ideas and designs. Teaching combines project work, homework and group critique. These discussions introduce design terminology and encourage students to give, receive and reflect on feedback. Computers may be used, but the course does not focus on technical software skills.
