A beginner gardening course combining outdoor practical work with classroom theory on growing crops, plant care and sustainable gardening.

About this course

This course introduces participants to growing vegetables, herbs, fruit and flowers from seed through to harvest. Sessions cover sowing, planting out, taking cuttings, plant care and ways to address common growing problems. It also explores composting, creating wildlife habitats and wildflower areas, improving green spaces, and reducing carbon footprint on a small scale. Most learning is practical and takes place outdoors, with classroom time used for relevant theory, guidance and advice.

The course is designed for complete beginners, as no previous experience is required. Participation is largely practical and outdoors, weather permitting, with some classroom-based theory. It can accommodate learners growing plants in an allotment, garden, balcony or windowsill.

Before you go
