About this course
The course examines achievements across areas including philosophy and education, art and architecture, poetry and literature, lifestyle and culture, trade and agriculture, statecraft and law, exploration and cartography, as well as science and medicine. It considers how these developments shaped the medieval Islamic world and influenced Europe. Teaching combines lectures with presentation slides, audio-visual material, breakout sessions, and group and whole-class discussion.

Is this course right for you?
This course is intended for learners with some prior knowledge of Islamic history and the medieval Islamic world. Participants should already understand the birth, expansion and decline of Islam, and the development of the Islamic Golden Age within the Islamic empires. The course involves listening to lectures, following visual and verbal material, and contributing to group and class discussion.
- Some prior study of the history of Islam and the medieval Islamic world is expected.
- Learners should be able to follow written and verbal instruction, presentation slides and health and safety information in English.
- Teaching includes breakout activities alongside group and whole-class discussion.
