An online beginner-level course examining art from prehistory to postmodernism through lectures, discussion and visual analysis.
About this course
The course surveys artworks and artefacts from prehistory, Ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt and pre-Columbian cultures through Greek, Roman, Renaissance, Baroque, modernist and postmodernist periods. Selected buildings, paintings, frescoes and sculptures are considered alongside historical events, primary literature and the philosophical ideas shaping each period. Teaching combines tutor-led presentations with guided discussion, question-and-answer sessions, image analysis and virtual gallery activities. Learners reflect on their observations, share interpretations and complete short tasks that consolidate their understanding.
