About this course
This follow-on drawing course develops work beyond fundamental techniques through observation-based exercises and guided experimentation. Learners practise proportion using guidelines and grids, compose still lifes, and use shading to suggest form and three-dimensionality. Sessions also introduce basic colour theory and mixing, alongside charcoal, graphite, pen and ink, felt tips, soft pastels and aquarelles. Exercises explore how paper texture and tone affect an image and include freer imaginative drawing. Teaching combines weekly focus areas with individual feedback, helping participants begin to shape a personal drawing style.
What you'll learn
- Observe and translate subjects onto paper with greater accuracy
- Apply proportion, guidelines and grids to structure drawings
- Create more dynamic compositions, including still-life arrangements
- Use a wider range of drawing media, including charcoal, graphite, ink, pastels and aquarelles
- Apply basic colour theory and colour mixing
- Use shading, paper texture and paper tone to suggest form and affect the finished image
