About this course
This improvers course uses demonstrations and guided painting activities to extend learners’ understanding of oil painting. Using water-mixable oil paints, participants work from a blank canvas towards a series of paintings while examining and comparing techniques associated with different artists. Teaching covers colour theory, the qualities of oil paint, palette setup, colour mixing and brush handling. Learners also practise wet-on-wet blending and consider how to represent light and shade. The course combines tutor demonstrations with opportunities to apply techniques in their own work.
