Icon Painting: Our Lady of Lourdes

An all-levels workshop introducing traditional egg tempera and Russian dry-brush techniques through the creation of an icon of Our Lady of Lourdes.
About this course
The workshop explores the traditional icon-painting process through an image of Our Lady of Lourdes, shown in the Grotto of Massabielle with a white robe, blue sash, rosary and yellow roses. Participants create their own icon while learning how egg tempera and the Russian dry-brush method are used together. The image is built gradually with minimal pigment and fine, delicate layers. This approach develops the soft, luminous quality associated with traditional icon painting and provides an introduction to the devotional context of the subject.

- Apply traditional egg tempera techniques in icon painting
- Use the Russian dry-brush method with minimal pigment
