About this course

The course examines animal anatomy, movement, skin patterns and textures, using subjects observed from life, photographs and video. Learners develop drawings into illustrations by experimenting with pencil, paint, ink and collage, and by considering how animal character and expression can be represented or exaggerated for design and children’s book work. Teaching combines presentations, demonstrations, practical tasks, individual and group tutoring, and discussion. Some sessions may take place off-site, providing opportunities for location drawing and observation from primary sources. Additional activities may be set outside class hours.

What you'll learn

  • Draw animals from life and from secondary sources such as photographs or video
