Illustration into printmaking

About this course

Participants investigate printmaking as a way to draw and develop images for illustration and graphic design projects. Techniques include hand-cut paper stencils, relief printing, gel plate monoprinting, mark-making, texture and layered colour using inks. Teaching combines presentations, demonstrations, practical tasks, individual and group tutoring, and discussion. The course also includes scanning prints into digital files and encourages reflection on participants’ own work and progress.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for beginners interested in illustration and printmaking, and no previous experience is necessary. Participation includes practical tasks, individual and group tutoring, discussions and reflection on personal work. Learners need enough English to follow instructions, demonstrations and health and safety information.

Before you go

• Basic materials and resources are available as part of the course.
• Learners are advised to bring an A5 or A4 sketchbook for recording ideas.
• An A3 folder and/or USB drive is advised for transporting work.
• Suitable clothing and footwear should be worn when working with inks.
• Any additional materials needed will be discussed by the tutor if required.
