About this course
Classes develop ballet technique at the barre and in the centre, with more dynamic barre exercises supporting the strength and stamina needed for demanding centre work. Learners work on longer combinations, coordination between the arms, head and feet, balances, turns and travelling steps. The syllabus introduces adagio and more refined allegro, while placing greater emphasis on fluid transitions between movements. Turn preparation and spotting are also developed, including work towards cleaner pirouettes. Sessions are conducted in flat ballet shoes rather than pointe shoes.
What you'll learn
- Develop longer one-leg balances in retiré and arabesque
- Coordinate port de bras with the head, arms and feet
- Perform more complex adagio, allegro and travelling combinations
- Refine preparation and spotting for pirouettes
- Build the strength and stamina needed for more demanding centre work
Is this course right for you?
The course is intended for learners who have completed several beginner ballet courses or have danced regularly before and are returning to ballet. Improver level suggests familiarity with basic posture, turnout, arm positions, coordination and faster-paced teaching, including introductory travelling steps and turns.
- Previous regular ballet experience or completion of several beginner courses is expected
- Learners should be comfortable coordinating arms and legs at a faster pace
- The class involves both barre work and more demanding centre combinations
Before you go
- Flat ballet shoes in canvas or leather are required; pointe shoes are not used.
- Comfortable, form-fitting dancewear is recommended. Ballet tights and leotards are suitable, while supportive fitness wear is also accepted.
