About this course
This introductory session explores improvisation through games and structured exercises. Participants practise responding to uncertainty, using “Yes, and...” to develop ideas, and creating scenes and stories together in the moment. The teaching focuses on listening, communication, spontaneity and collaborative work rather than formal performance to an audience. The session also provides an introduction to the structure and approach of a longer improvisation course.
What you'll learn
- Use core improvisation games and exercises
- Apply the “Yes, and...” principle when developing ideas
- Practise listening and communication within group work
- Create scenes and stories spontaneously with other participants
- Respond more readily to uncertainty during improvisation exercises
Is this course right for you?
The session is designed for complete beginners as well as people with some previous improvisation experience. Participation involves group games and exercises, standing and physical activity. It is exploratory rather than a formal performance for an audience, and may also suit writers, presenters and public speakers.
- Suitable for complete beginners and learners with some experience
- Involves being on your feet and physically active
- Does not focus on performing to an audience
- Relevant to writers, presenters and public speakers as well as actors
Before you go
