Printmaking

Beginner

Beginner-level practical course exploring etching and drypoint through guided and self-directed intaglio printmaking projects.

About this course

The course introduces intaglio printmaking through etching and drypoint, with work focused on mark-making, line, tone and texture. Participants create plates using hard ground, soft ground, drypoint and aquatint processes, then print them with an etching press. Teaching combines demonstrations, presentations, guided exercises and one-to-one feedback. Learners may develop projects from drawings or photography, working within a structured programme or pursuing self-directed ideas at their own pace. Group discussions and sharing work are also included.
