About this course
Participants develop a short film from initial idea to final edit, working collaboratively across writing, directing, camera, lighting, sound and production roles. The course covers genre, visual storytelling, cinematography, scene coverage, continuity, storyboards, shot lists, budgeting and scheduling.
What you'll learn
- Operate Canon DSLR cameras and explore Blackmagic 4K and 6K cinema cameras
- Apply framing, camera movement, depth of field and visual composition
- Set up lighting and record audio for film production
- Plan a shoot using scripts, storyboards, shot lists, budgets and schedules
- Work with actors and crew while applying set roles and etiquette
- Edit footage using pacing, continuity, rhythm, sound design, music and colour correction
Is this course right for you?
The course is designed for complete beginners as well as learners with some filmmaking experience. It involves collaborative work as a crew, including shared production roles and writing a short film as a group.
- No previous filmmaking experience is required
- Participants collaborate closely with other learners throughout production
- Production roles are rotated, including directing, camera, lighting, sound and production management
Before you go
- Cameras, lighting equipment and sound equipment are provided.
- Participants may bring their own camera if they are familiar with its controls.
- Participants leave with the short film created during the course.
