About this course

The course introduces foundational jewellery-making techniques including piercing, filing, drilling, texturing, annealing, forming, soldering and polishing. Beginners apply these skills by making a copper pendant, an open ring and a silver-soldered band ring with a cabochon stone. Learners with existing experience can develop individual projects, extend their current skills and explore further techniques. Teaching combines demonstrations and handouts with supervised practice, including guidance provided both to the group and to individual learners.

Before you go

  • All tools and equipment needed for jewellery making are supplied.
  • Beginners receive copper sheet for the first lesson. Silver sheet, a stone and saw blades can be purchased from the tutor afterwards.
  • Experienced learners supply their own metal.
  • A sketchbook is encouraged for notes, handouts, images and designs.
  • Closed shoes must be worn for health and safety reasons.
