About this course

Participants begin with clay preparation, wedging, centring and studio safety before practising thrown cylinders. The course then develops into bowls and bottle shapes, with collaring used to narrow forms. Surface decoration includes slip decoration and sgraffito. Further sessions cover pulling and attaching handles, trimming, foot rings and final finishing. Teaching combines tutor guidance with repeated practice at the wheel, allowing participants to work through the main stages of making a functional ceramic form.
