About this course

Participants develop individual themes and textile practices through tutor-set projects, workshops and optional technique-focused sessions. The course may involve weaving, textile construction, surface design, dye, print, paper textiles, quilting, pleating, machine and hand stitch, with the precise focus varying across the programme. Teaching combines group discussion, show and tell, critique, and one-to-one guidance. Exhibition visits and discussion are used to inform research, ideas and material exploration, while participants may work independently or contribute to an individual or group project.

What you'll learn

  • Develop historical and practical research for individual textile themes
  • Explore and combine a range of textile processes and materials
  • Apply manipulated, printed, machine-stitch and hand-stitch techniques
  • Generate tests, samples, collections or idea books to investigate concepts
  • Develop an individual or group project in relation to personal practice

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for artists, designers and makers working at an advanced level who can develop projects with a degree of independence. Sessions also involve discussion, show and tell, group critique and work with tutors individually and in groups. The advanced level and request for work samples indicate that tutor approval is part of joining the course.

  • Suitable for learners developing an established or advancing textiles practice

  • Tutor approval is required before full enrolment
