Intermediate Bookbinding: Half & Quarter Bindings with Recess

About this course

Participants will make two case-bound books with flat spines. The first introduces half-binding, using bookcloth on the spine and corners with contrasting cover materials or colours. The second explores a recessed cover, creating an inset area for a print, photograph or other image. The workshop focuses on constructing the bindings and applying these design features, with participants completing a set of books they can use as models for further work at home.

Is this course right for you?

The workshop is intended for learners with some bookbinding experience and builds on skills covered in Introduction to Bookbinding 1–3. The intermediate label indicates work beyond fundamental techniques, so it may suit participants developing an existing foundation rather than those starting from scratch.
