About this course

Participants study chamber music repertoire selected with the tutor and rehearse with other instrumentalists and singers in duos, trios and quartets. Sessions use a workshop format, with guidance, regular feedback and discussion of musical ideas. The course focuses on ensemble and accompaniment skills, including rehearsal practice, interpretation, sight reading and preparation of repertoire between sessions. Some online content may be included when requested.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for instrumentalists and singers at an intermediate standard, described as Grade 6–8 ABRSM with basic chamber music knowledge. Participation involves playing and rehearsing with other students, preparing repertoire outside class and taking part in an informal audition with the tutor.

  • Previous technical and musical experience is expected, including basic sight reading ability.
  • Weekly preparation and private practice outside class are required.
  • Excellent attendance and punctuality are expected.
  • Places are subject to tutor approval following an informal audition.

Before you go

  • Instrumentalists must bring their own instrument.
  • Bring a copy of the agreed sheet music, along with a pencil and rubber.
  • Participants may need to make their own copies of music for study.
