About this course

This course develops practical French for everyday communication through structured practice in speaking, listening, reading and writing. Learners discuss cultural topics, regions, events and places in France and other French-speaking countries, with occasional video-based activities. Classwork includes grammar exercises, comprehension tasks, vocabulary building from texts, and listening for specific information or overall meaning. Learners also revise earlier topics, practise using different tenses, and write longer passages and emails that express opinions or make requests.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for learners with a foundational knowledge of French who are developing beyond elementary study. It requires regular attendance, punctuality and completion of activities outside class, alongside active practice across speaking, listening, reading and writing.

• Previous French study is expected, such as Stage 3 Unit 2 or more than two years of study.
• Learners should be prepared to complete work outside class.

• A textbook will be discussed and confirmed with learners at the start of the course.
• Learners should bring a pen, paper and a paper or phone-based dictionary.
• Activities are expected to be completed outside class time.
