About this course

The course develops guitar playing through discussion, structured practice and application. Topics include major, minor, seventh and minor 7th arpeggios in G and E types, alongside Dorian and Mixolydian modes. Learners apply these ideas in weekly free-form jams and work on four riffs, a shorter solo and a longer solo. Blues is covered through two modules, with playing activities designed to connect technical material to repertoire and improvisation.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for intermediate guitarists, with the level label suggesting learners developing beyond fundamental techniques. Participation includes discussion, individual practice, group improvisation and applied playing. There is also an opportunity to perform live with the group, backed by the provider’s house band, at the end of term.

Before you go

• Participants should bring the guitar they play most.
• Electric guitar players are expected to bring their own amplifiers and leads.
• A course book with guidance and resources is included.
• Access to a YouTube practice playlist is included.
• Participants are invited to join the provider’s WhatsApp music and guitar community.
• Missed sessions can be made up by attending another appropriate session in the weekly schedule.
