About this course
The course introduces the construction techniques used to make a basic top. Learners will read simple patterns, cut sample pieces and practise plain, zigzag and French seams, darts, pockets, facings and hems. Pressing and finishing methods are also covered. Teaching combines demonstrations, workshop practice, individual guidance, group discussion and feedback. Learners will work through fabric samples and apply the techniques to a basic top sample, with extension activities available for those progressing quickly.

Is this course right for you?
The course is intended for complete beginners in clothesmaking and does not require previous experience. Learners should be able to follow simple written and spoken instructions, use basic measurements and calculations, and take part in group discussion. Teaching includes practical workshop activity, demonstrations and individual support, with some additional tasks potentially set for home.

- Bring a notebook, pen or pencil, and a bag for work.
- Basic materials are provided.
