Introduction to collage and mixed media

About this course

The course explores how paper, drawing, paint, text and photographic imagery can be combined to create collage and two- or three-dimensional relief surfaces. Participants investigate paper manipulation, including folding, piercing, layering, sewing and weaving, alongside mono-printing and surface alterations using paper, ink and paint. Teaching is organised around creative projects and technique demonstrations, supported by hand-outs, presentations and artists’ books. Group discussion and individual tuition are combined with reflection on participants’ developing work.

• Participants may bring found papers and personal source material, such as envelopes, old books, photographs, letters or drawings. Advice is given in the first session.
