About this course

The course introduces dye selection for fibres including cotton, linen, silk and wool. It covers acid dyes, simple natural dyes and mordants, synthetic indigo vats, mixed-fibre dyeing, shibori and dip-dye techniques, including fold, pleat and wrap patterns. Teaching combines presentations and demonstrations with practical sessions using small fabric pieces and yarn hanks. Discussions and feedback accompany the work, while participants develop a collection of dyed samples and organise them into a dye reference book.

  • Mix and use acid, natural and indigo dyes safely
  • Create fold, pleat and wrap shibori patterns
