About this course

The course develops foundational English across reading, writing, listening and speaking. Class activities include individual tasks, pair and group work, use of internet-based technology, study-skills practice and preparation for speaking and listening exams. Writing work focuses on using capital letters and full stops, as well as spelling words accurately. Learners also practise English regularly in class and prepare for further assessment.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for learners at Beginner (A1) level who already understand and speak some English, can read and write in their own language, and use the Roman alphabet. Enrolment includes an assessment and conversation with a teacher.

• Learners are expected to practise English regularly outside class
• Good attendance and completed homework are identified as important for progress
• The class includes individual, pair and group activities

Before you go

• Before enrolment, learners take a test and speak with a teacher at an Advice and Guidance day.
• Learners should bring lined A4 paper or a notebook, a pen, a pencil, a rubber and an A4 file.
• A smartphone or tablet may be useful in class.
