About this course

The course develops reading and writing towards Level 1 while continuing speaking and listening at Level 2. Lessons use audio work, reading aloud, written tasks, quizzes, word searches, games and role play, with computers, YouTube and an interactive whiteboard supporting classroom activities. Learners work individually, in pairs and in small groups, with one-to-one discussions about their progress. Each learner has a personal learning plan with individual targets. City & Guilds exams assess the unit studied at the end of each term, with certificates awarded for passed units.

What you'll learn

  • Develop reading and writing skills towards Level 1
  • Obtain more detailed information through verbal communication
  • Contribute constructively to group discussions

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for learners whose initial assessment places their English below the standards for Level 1. It may suit learners who have already developed some speaking and listening ability but need further work towards a complete Level 1 qualification. Participation includes individual tasks, pair work, small-group activities and discussions.

  • An initial assessment determines the appropriate current English level
  • The course focuses particularly on completing Level 1 reading and writing skills
  • Regular attendance, punctuality and independent study are expected

Before you go

  • Bring a pen, lined paper and a file for keeping course work.
  • A course book may also need to be purchased.
