About this course

This ESOL course develops early literacy alongside speaking, listening and reading. Classroom activities include listening to audio, role play, reading aloud, writing exercises, quizzes, word searches and other games. Learners work independently, in pairs or in small groups, with one-to-one discussions about their progress and an individual learning plan with personal targets. Computers, YouTube and an interactive whiteboard are used to support learning. Assessment includes internally marked City & Guilds exams for the unit being studied.

Is this course right for you?

Designed for speakers of other languages working at Entry 1 or 2 whose literacy level is below their speaking level. An initial assessment determines the appropriate English level. Participation includes individual work, pair and small-group activities, and one-to-one progress discussions.

• A minimum attendance level of 90% is stated.
• Assessment is based on City & Guilds exams for the unit being studied, with a possible retake if an exam is unsuccessful.

• Learners need a pen, lined paper and a file for keeping their work.
• A course book may also need to be purchased.
