About this course

The course develops English literacy alongside speaking and listening, with activities including audio work, role play, reading aloud, writing practice, quizzes, word searches and language games. Learners work individually, in pairs and in small groups, with opportunities for one-to-one progress discussions with the tutor. Computers, YouTube and an interactive whiteboard are used as learning tools, and each learner has an individual plan with personal targets. Progress is assessed through internally marked City & Guilds unit examinations, with certificates awarded for passed exams.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for ESOL learners at Entry 2 whose literacy is less developed than their speaking level. An initial assessment determines current English ability, with entry considered where speaking and listening need support or consolidation at E2. Participation includes individual study, paired and small-group activities, and one-to-one progress discussions.

• An initial assessment is used to establish the appropriate English level
• A minimum of 90% attendance is required, with regular punctual attendance linked to progress
