About this course

The course examines the main stages of glass casting, including mould-making, melting and shaping glass, material properties, finishing methods and relevant safety procedures. Learners also consider the history of glass art while developing their own projects. Teaching combines tutor demonstrations, discussion, set processes and regular feedback. Practical work is carried out with workshop tools and materials, allowing learners to investigate both the technical and creative aspects of casting and produce several glass pieces.

Before you go

  • Tuition, specialist materials and use of specialist equipment are included, including metal leaves and sizes for gilding.
  • Learners are expected to purchase glass or alternative glass types, with guidance provided during the first session.
  • Bring a sketchbook or notebook and drawing and writing materials such as pencils, pens or marker pens.
  • Sturdy shoes, boots or trainers must be worn. Open sandals are not suitable, and an apron is required.
  • Basic workshop tools are available. Glass and other materials can be bought by learners, while bringing personal resources is optional.
