About this course

This tasting examines Tuscany through its major wines and grape varieties, with particular attention to Sangiovese and Chianti. It also considers Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Brunello and modern Supertuscans, alongside white wines such as Vernaccia, Frascati and Orvieto from nearby regions. A comparative tasting format is used to explore the difference between traditional Sangiovese-led wines and modern Supertuscan reds. The session also places these wines within Italy’s wider range of indigenous grape varieties.

What you'll learn

  • Identify the role of Sangiovese in important Tuscan red wines
  • Compare traditional Sangiovese-led wines with modern Supertuscan styles
  • Examine key wine examples from Tuscany, Lazio and Umbria
  • Explore the diversity of Italy’s indigenous grape varieties
