About this course
The course develops jazz piano skills through work on harmony, improvisation and rhythm. Participants practise improvising over simple chord sequences, shaping solos with characteristic jazz ideas, and coordinating left- and right-hand patterns in jazz and Latin styles. Teaching combines verbal explanation, handouts, videos, musical examples, demonstrations and individual participation. Classes also include listening to the tutor and other learners, alongside singing and clapping exercises.

Is this course right for you?
This course is intended for pianists working at around Grade 3 ABRSM standard or above, with previous jazz piano study or equivalent experience in playing and improvisation. It requires tutor approval. Participants play individually, listen to others, and take part in singing and clapping exercises. Reading notation is useful, although the course also allows study through melody lines, chord symbols and recordings.
- Previous completion of Jazz Piano 1A and 1B, or equivalent jazz piano experience, is required
- Learners need to play piano with both hands, either from notation or by ear
- Tutor approval is required before enrolment
