Introduction to Millennial Literature

About this course

The course examines how 21st-century writers have addressed economic precarity, social media, identity and the search for meaning. It also considers whether a distinct millennial novel exists, and how race, class and gender challenge ideas of a shared generational experience. Teaching combines tutor presentations, individual reading, small-group work and wider discussion. Learners will examine short extracts from works including Assembly, Queenie, My Phantoms, Normal People and Fleabag, alongside work by Taylor Swift and Michaela Coel.
