About this course

The course introduces oil painting through still-life work and reference images. Participants explore colour mixing, layering, blending and glazing, while studying tone, light and composition to create depth and form. Safe use of materials is covered alongside practical painting processes. Teaching combines demonstrations, presentations, guided exercises, group discussion and individual feedback. Learners produce studies and a more resolved painting, with time towards the end for a personal project. Sessions also include reflection on completed work and opportunities to develop an individual approach.
