Introduction to pattern cutting II

About this course

Learners develop a dress block to their own measurements, either drafting from measurements or adapting an existing bodice block. They explore draping on the stand, transfer designs to paper patterns and fit a toile before amending the pattern for final cloth. The course uses demonstrations, discussion, workshop practice and individual guidance. Participants choose a dress design, while those with more experience can incorporate details such as pleating, ruffles or gathering. Different pattern-cutting approaches are considered as part of the process.

Is this course right for you?

The course is labelled Improver and is intended for learners developing beyond fundamental pattern-cutting techniques. Some existing pattern-cutting and equipment knowledge is beneficial. Learners should be able to follow written and verbal instructions, take measurements and carry out simple calculations.

Before you go

• Basic materials for samples are supplied.
• A notebook and pencil would be useful for taking notes.
