About this course
The course introduces flat pattern cutting through demonstrations, hand-outs, group discussion and individual tutor guidance. Learners take body measurements, draft a master block, explore adaptations at scale and develop a garment design through drawings and research. They then alter a full-size block, make a pattern, and construct a toile in calico, using stitched samples as a reference. Teaching combines visual explanation with independent work, supported by one-to-one advice and peer feedback. Progress is reviewed through practical work, discussions, tutorials and self-assessment.
What you'll learn
- Take accurate body measurements and use them to draft a block
- Adapt blocks at scale to explore different garment designs
- Develop research and initial drawings into a final design
- Create a full-size pattern from an adapted block
- Produce sewing samples for reference during construction
- Construct a calico toile from a completed pattern
