Introduction to SQL and Microsoft SQL Server

About this course

The course introduces relational database concepts through Microsoft SQL Server. Participants create linked tables using SQL, work with different data types and maintain stored information using Data Manipulation Language commands. They also query databases with joins, logical and comparison operators, fuzzy searches, null handling and date functions, including the use of aliases, calculated fields and formatted values. Teaching combines some theory with tutor demonstrations, programming tasks and problem-solving activities. The focus is on applying SQL to build, maintain and interrogate a relational database.

It is fast paced, with substantial practical programming and problem-solving work. Good computing skills and accurate typing are needed; previous coding experience is beneficial but not required. Before you go

• Computers with the required software installations are provided in the classroom.
