About this course

Participants are introduced to the materials and processes used in traditional oil painting, including canvas stretching and methods for transferring images. Drawing practices and foundational techniques are developed alongside work on tonal structure through imprimatura and grisaille, a monochrome underpainting. The course also examines how different brushes affect paint application, including scumbling with bristle brushes and glazing with soft hair brushes. Teaching combines technical instruction with opportunities to explore and experiment with these methods.
