What Pre-intermediate (A2+) Italian means

At A2+ Italian, learners can connect simple sentences, give reasons and manage a wider range of familiar situations.

  • Explain a preference

    Preferisco viaggiare in treno perché è più comodo e posso leggere.

    I prefer travelling by train because it is more comfortable and I can read.

  • Handle a small problem

    La camera è molto fredda. Potrebbe controllare il riscaldamento?

    The room is very cold. Could you check the heating?

  • Describe an experience

    L’anno scorso ho visitato Firenze e mi è piaciuta molto l’architettura.

    Last year I visited Florence and really liked the architecture.

About this course

The course develops spoken communication through pair and group activities, role plays, games and other classroom interaction. Learners work with presentations, hand-outs and audio-visual materials while extending their vocabulary and using a wider range of verb tenses. Course content covers health and lifestyle, work, and accommodation, with grammar focused on the future tense and comparative forms. Listening and speaking are emphasised in class, while reading and writing are mainly practised through recommended homework, including written job applications.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for learners with established Italian knowledge at upper Stage 2, corresponding to approximately Pre-intermediate (A2+). It requires completion of Italian 2 Upper: Module 1, around two years of previous study, or equivalent knowledge. Lessons involve spoken interaction, pair work, group work and role plays.

  • Previous Italian study or equivalent knowledge is required.
  • Homework is highly recommended to consolidate classroom learning.
