Italian – Intermediate Stage 2

About this course

The course develops Italian communication through pair and group activities, classroom interaction, role plays and presentations. Learners work with authentic texts and contemporary cultural topics while strengthening speaking, listening, reading and writing. Grammar work consolidates the presente, passato prossimo and imperfetto, then introduces the imperativo and condizionale. Topics include health, celebrations, towns and the countryside, and eating out. Learners also practise expressing and justifying opinions, agreeing or disagreeing, managing invitations, and discussing advantages and disadvantages.

What you'll learn

• Expand vocabulary related to health, celebrations, towns and the countryside, and eating out.
• Consolidate use of the presente, passato prossimo and imperfetto, and develop use of the imperativo and condizionale.
• Use Italian structures to express and justify opinions, agree or disagree, and accept or decline invitations.
• Develop greater fluency and spontaneity through role plays, classroom interactions and presentations.
• Compare Italian traditions with other traditions to develop intercultural awareness.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for learners who have completed Post-Beginners Stage 2 or an equivalent of around two years’ Italian study. It may also suit people who have recently completed GCSE Italian and want to consolidate past and future tenses. Participation includes pair and group work, role plays and presentations.

• Previous completion of an equivalent Italian course is stated as suitable preparation.
• Recent GCSE Italian learners may use the course to consolidate their use of past and future tenses.
• Learners discuss their goals with the tutor and reflect on progress through a Personal Learning Plan.
