About this course

The course develops Italian for formal and everyday communication, including customer service, banking, refunds, bureaucracy and telephone assistance. Learners practise reporting information, giving explanations, expressing reactions, making hypotheses and handling clarifications or polite protests. Teaching combines group activities and role-plays with systematic work on grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. The teacher uses Italian throughout, giving learners regular practice in listening and comprehension. Topics include indirect speech, combined verbs and pronouns, selected conjunctions and adverbial expressions, alongside cultural knowledge about Italian services, geography and daily communication.

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for learners at Intermediate (B1) level who have already studied Italian to a fairly high level. Previous study of Italian Level 17, or at least 204 class hours, is required. Participation involves spoken communication, group work and role-plays, alongside structured language study.

• Learners should be prepared to communicate regularly in Italian during group activities and role-plays.

• A required coursebook is DIECI B1 by C. Massimo Naddeo and E. Orlandino, ALMA Edizioni, ISBN 978-8861826885. The course uses Unit 2, although not all activities may be covered.
