What Beginner (A1) Italian means

At A1 Italian, learners are beginning to use familiar words and simple sentences in predictable everyday situations.

  • Introduce yourself

Mi chiamo Anna. Abito a Londra.

My name is Anna. I live in London.

  • Order in a café

    Vorrei un caffè, per favore.

I would like a coffee, please.

  • Ask for directions

    Scusi, dov’è la stazione?

Excuse me, where is the station?

These are general examples of language use at this level, not a description of any individual course syllabus.

About this course

The course develops foundational Italian for everyday communication, including greetings, introductions, personal information, numbers, time, restaurants, leisure activities, preferences and describing places. It also introduces the verbs essere, avere and andare, present-tense forms, negatives, adjectives and formal and informal forms of address.
