What Beginner (A1) Italian means

At A1 Italian, learners are beginning to use familiar words and simple sentences in predictable everyday situations.

  • Introduce yourself

    Mi chiamo Anna. Abito a Londra.

    My name is Anna. I live in London.

  • Order in a café

    Vorrei un caffè, per favore.

    I would like a coffee, please.

  • Ask for directions

    Scusi, dov’è la stazione?

    Excuse me, where is the station?

About this course

This introductory session focuses on useful Italian for first encounters and everyday situations. Participants practise greetings, exchanging names, sharing personal information, and ordering food and drinks, alongside an introduction to Italian language and culture. Teaching centres on spoken interaction and communication. Pair and group activities, role plays and games are supported by presentations, hand-outs and audio-visual resources, giving learners several ways to engage with the material.
